The Chicago Linguistic Society (CLS) is the oldest student-run linguistics organization in the United States that has been held almost every year since 1965.
CLS conferences have provided unique opportunities for the University of Chicago linguistics community to coordinate, host, and participate in intense scholarly discussions with researchers from around the world.
They requested a refreshing, modern-looking logo for their 61st conference.
To visually represent the CLS 61, I combined the iconic Chicago star with phonetic symbols to spell out “Chicago Ling Soc”. The color palette draws from the city's recognizable red and blue.
